Effects and safety of BioBran

BioBran has immunomodulatory effects such as immunostimulation and anti-inflammatory properties. Many papers have been published so far, reporting various cases and studies. Since it is made from rice bran, which has a long history of consumption, safety has been emphasized from the beginning of development, and its safety has been supported by various tests.

Scientific Research

Immunostimulatory effect

BioBran

①Activates NK cells

BioBran promotes rapid elimination of “Non-Self” by enhancing the first line of defense system.

②Activates T cells and B cells

BioBran activates helper T cells, cytotoxic T cells, and B cells and prevents infection.

③Activates Macrophages

BioBran strengthens the function of macrophages, which phagocytose antigens such as pathogens and viruses that have invaded the body.

④Promotes dendritic cells differentiation

BioBran activates dendritic cells which are the commander of the immune system and orchestrate other immune cells.

Anti-inflammatory effect

BioBran improves liver function in inflammatory conditions by lowering ALT, AST and ALP. Also BioBran supresses the decrease of glutathione level and activities of antioxidant enzymes (glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase), and protects cognitive health.

Improvement in combination with standard therapy

Supportive action of chemotherapy/radiotherapy

BioBran works synergistically with chemotherapy to increase the sensitivity of tumor cells to chemotherapeutic agents. In combination with radiotherapy, BioBran induces apoptosis of tumor cells, thereby enhancing the therapeutic effect.

QOL improvement

In combination with chemotherapy or radiotherapy, BioBran reduces side effects such as “pain,” “fatigue,” and “nausea” and improves quality of life.

Mechanism of Action

Starch, dietary fiber, and BioBran are classified as polysaccharides. Starch is digested by saliva, pancreatic juice, and intestinal juice, and is absorbed in the small intestine as glucose. Dietary fiber is not digested, and is excreted unchanged. BioBran is known to be partly absorbed directly in the digestive tract, entering the blood stream. BioBran activates the Natural Killer Cells, T cells, B cells, and macrophages, either directly in the blood, or indirectly via the Peyer’s patch of the ileum, so plays an important role in immunomodulation (immunostimulation, anti-inflammation, anti-allergy and antioxidation processes). Overall, BioBran is considered to enhance the body’s natural healing abilities, alleviate the adverse drug reactions of chemotherapeutic agents, and improve quality of life.

Mechanism of Ation
Manufacturing Process

BioBran is produced from rice bran. Hemicellulose B, a type of soluble dietary fiber contained in rice bran, is a polysaccharide with a complex structure consisting of arabinose and xylose. As it is, Hemicellulose B exerts no immunostimulatory effects.

However, by reacting hemicellulose B with carbohydrate-hydrolyzing enzymes obtained from shiitake mushroom mycelia, it exerts immunomodulatory effects. This product, BioBran, is one of a functional food ingredient unique to Daiwa, which focuses on traditional Japanese food and fermentation technology.
