Daiwa Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. gave a presentation entitled "The effect of purified natto culture filtrate (NKCP) on human blood" at the "5th 21st Century Food and Health Forum" of the Japan Pre-symptomatic Medical System Society held at Nippon Medical School's Kitsuou Hall on November 8 (Sat), 2003.
The Japan Pre-symptomatic Medical System Society studies systems to reduce medical costs through early diagnosis and self-prevention at the pre-symptomatic stage that occurs between the health state and the appearance of disease. This forum was held to reconsider the relationship between health and food by focusing on the scientifically supported practices of improved lifestyle including food and exercise in addition to drug therapy. In this presentation, our company explained the mechanism by which NKCP prevents thrombotic infarction using Daiwa Pharmaceutical's Product Profiles and accumulated research data.
Daiwa Pharmaceutical examined the thrombus lysing action of natto and developed a purified natto culture filtrate (NKCP) by eliminating from natto culture the bacterial cells, odor and viscosity peculiar to natto, and vitamin K.
In a clinical study in conducted jointly by the Dokkyo University School of Medicine and Hanzomon Gastrointestinal Clinic with the support of Daiwa, subjects were given two 125 mg tablets (250 mg as NKCP) once a day after dinner for 2 weeks and were observed for up to 2 months to confirm the effect of long-term ingestion in humans.
It was noted that NKCP ingestion at 250 mg/day reduced fibrinolysis (shortened ELT), thus demonstrating an increase in fibrinolytic activity.
Among subjective symptoms, there was a significant improvement in "shoulder stiffness" after ingestion. This may have been because blood circulation increased by NKCP ingestion improved local circulation in the muscles and surrounding tissue.
These findings suggest that oral ingestion of NKCP is effective in the prevention of thrombosis and improvement of local circulation. However, further basic and clinical investigations are needed to verify these findings.
