Tsukuba Factory of Daiwa Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. Starts Full Operation

Daiwa Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Daiwa) had been constructing its Tsukuba Factory in an industrial complex in Okuharacho Town, Ushiku City in Ibaraki Prefecture. To mark the completion of construction, a special ceremony was held on March 15. It was attended by prestigious guests, including Mr. Y. Ohno, mayor of Ushiku City, and Mr. S. Kageyama, senior director of the Development Corporation of Ibaraki Prefecture. Mr. K. Kimura, a chief priest of the Kashima Jinja Shrine, took charge of the ceremony, which proceeded smoothly.

The factory occupies a land area of 5,500 m2 with a building area of 825 m2 having a state-of-the-art facility for culturing microorganisms, and will start operating from April. In the factory, "Lentin Plus" (rice bran arabinoxylan) will be manufactured with a maximum output of 3 tons per month. Kakegawa Factory, Daiwa's other plant already in operation, has a production capability of 1.5 tons a month. With the completion of the Tsukuba Factory, Daiwa now has a total of 4.5 tons of monthly production capability.

The demand for Daiwa's "Lentin Plus" has risen sharply not only in Japan but also abroad countries, and a production system to satisfy the increased demand is required.

Along with the completion of the Tsukuba Factory, R & D facilities at the site will also be increased. Daiwa has been carrying out a joint development project on new functional foods with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

Yasuo Ninomiya, president of Daiwa, expressed company policy by saying "We will try to enhance the content of our R & D in the future, and maintain the objectives of the company as a corporation performing R & D businesses," while we make use of the advantage of being close to Tsukuba Science City.
