The 128th annual meeting of the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan (hosted by the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan) was held in Yokohama (Pacifico Yokohama and other places) on March 26 to 28. There was a presentation of the study results for “Rice Kefiran,” a fermentation product produced by a lactobacillus from Kefir, which is supplied by Daiwa Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; President, Yasuo Ninomiya).
In this presentation, suppression of arteriosclerosis by Rice Kefiran in rabbits was reported by a study group, mainly consisting of Professor Koichi Kitada, the Pharmaceutical Department, Chiba University Hospital and Associate Professor Itsuko Ishii, Clinical Pharmacology, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Science, Chiba University.
They suggested that ingestion of Rice Kefiran may inhibit absorption and lipid peroxidation, leading to suppression of the development of arteriosclerosis. The results are summarized below.
