There are many factors compromising immunity in our society. The most notable include aging, smoking, stress, Westernized diet and lifestyle-e.g., decreased physical exertion resulting from increased use of automated transportation.

Immune compromise is known to precipitate and worsen infections, malignant tumors, endocrine disorders, and chronic lifestyle-related diseases. Studies in recent years have clarified that fiber and indigestible components in food are deeply involved in the maintenance of homeostasis and immune responsiveness.

It is also thought that ancient people consumed food containing indigestible fiber which effectively enhanced their immunity and maintained homeostasis. However, dietary fiber has been removed from modern foods due to current texture and taste preferences. It is clear that these changes are one cause of our chronic in dietary fiber intake deficiency.

As a result, many people have begun to pay attention to functions beyond taste and nutrients in their evaluation of food choices. Recognizing the importance of a focus on dietary fiber, Daiwa has developed a natural, digestible, fiber-rich food closely related to the healthful Japanese foodstuffs of ancient times. The resulting breakthrough product-BioBran-contains a multifunctional, water-soluble rice bran Arabinoxylan compound as the main component.

BioBran is manufactured using a water-soluble component of natural brans called hemicellulose B. This dietary fiber constitutes approximately 5% of crude rice bran. The principal constituent of the hemicellulose B found in rice bran is Arabinoxylan-so named because it is comprised of the organic monosaccharides arabinose and xylose.

Hemicellulose B has a complex molecular structure and relatively low molecular weight, compared with other dietary fibers. In this bulky form, Hemicellulose B has no immunomodulatory effect; however, when specifically hydrolyzed by a beneficial carbohydrase enzyme complex obtained from shiitake mushroom mycelia culture, it is transformed into an organic health-promoting product with a profound immunomodulatory effect.

This substance is known as BioBran, or Rice Bran Arabinoxylan Compound (RBAC). Distinct from naturally-occurring Arabinoxylan or Arabinoxylan-containing products, BioBran is a unique food produced via the innovative, natural biotransformation process of Daiwa Pharmaceutical of Japan.
